NEW BRAUNFELS: You had me at “Farmer’s Market”.

If you have not spent a Saturday morning strolling through the fresh veggies and locally sourced produce at the New Braunfels Farmers Market, you haven’t lived.

It is my depiction of a perfect Saturday morning.

Zac and I are always recommitting ourselves to eating organic and local. Emphasis on “recommitting” because I’m not perfect, and have a massive weakness for Zapp’s Voodoo chips.

Typically the only meat you will find in our house on a regular basis is venison or hog he has brought home, and if it’s a special season, some wild turkey. So, why not add in some preservative free veggies, and help out the local farms?

The hardest part about buying produce is choosing which farm to use – mainly because I’d hate to leave anyone out. So, I did a lap to scope out what everyone was selling. I came back to buy my tomatoes and onions from Naegelin’s, my potatoes and okra from Peralta Farms and lettuce and the most beautiful carrots I have ever seen from Johnson’s Backyard Garden.

I couldn’t pass up the fresh flowers that Ruby Thursday was selling on the push cart when you first walk in. Fresh flowers make everything more beautiful.

Not to mention our entire community was there. I love this town.

There were kids actually being kids. Decorating the ground with sidewalk chalk and having hula hoop competitions. Dogs everywhere, just happy to be where they were. And the passion coming from the vendors, because they were able to show our neighbors what they love.

Oh! and I forgot to add… for lunch follow your nose to the golden pineapple. Try the chicken kabobs and Filipino egg rolls with homemade mini rolls and sweet pepper sauce. Layla can attest, that woman has mean talent on the grill! Then go pop a squat at Krause’s with a pint of Seguin Brewing Co. 9 Pin Kolsch while listening to one of our many talented local musicians sing to you their heart and soul. Yes, please!!

I told you this place is a dream.

Long story short, skip the lines at the grocery store, get outside, and support your neighbors!
